Castel del Monte

Castel del Monte is a 13th-century citadel and castle situated on a hill in Andria in the Apulia region of southeast Italy. Unesco World Heritage site since 1996, its limestone construction forms a perfect octagon, the result of sophisticated mathematical, geometrical and astronomical knowledge, and synthesis of cultural elements of northern Europe, the Islamic world and Classical Antiquity.
